SICA Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SICREEE)

The SICREEE Project arises as a response to the needs in the sustainable energy sector that have been detected in the member countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA): Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Dominican Republic.

In December 2015, during the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Energy of SICA in El Salvador, the mandate was given to the General Secretariat of the institution to initiate coordination activities with the United Nations Organization for Industrial Development (UNIDO) and thus develop the preparatory phase of the SICREEE, with the support of the Austrian Agency for Development (ADA). During 2016, a needs assessment was carried out in the sector, through a consultancy that included visits to the 8 member countries and later a workshop was held in February 2017 in San José, Costa Rica, with the aim of validating the findings and present the project document.

In September 2018, the project document was approved and the activities of the first phase of the SICREEE Project are expected to begin during the first quarter of 2019.
