Decarbonising the around 6,000 district heating networks in Europe is a challenging task in the next decade. The targets are currently discussed in Brussels within the revision of Energy Efficiency Directive (EED). The IEA SHC Programme has joint forces with the two important associations in Brussels – Euroheat & Power and Solar Heat Europe – to discuss the role of solar heat in this political context during a 1.5 hour webinar on 28 March 2023. Experts from the Task 68 Efficient Solar District Heating have developed the keynote presentation for this event which introduces how Solar Heat for Cities, Towns and Energy Communities already works today and who is using it successfully.
The event will also bring together panelists covering the different perspectives needed for SDH uptake across Europe, such as financing, utilities, project development, and policy.

Solar Heat for Cities, Towns and Energy Communities
The info package consists of a 40-page presentation which highlights 10 case studies for solar district heating across Europe. With the help of these flagship projects, the most important questions about solar district heating are answered that local actors ask themselves when discussion green heating opportunities for their municipalities.
